Our Heritage
A Legacy Built Over More Than a Century
With roots dating back to 1896, LDV’s heritage spans more than 129 years. Our story began with the production of a pioneering 1.5-tonne steam-powered delivery vehicle, helping shape the future of commercial transport.
Over the decades, through a series of mergers and evolutions within the British automotive industry, the business became part of Leyland DAF in 1987. During this period, it established itself as one of Europe’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, supplying fleets to major organisations including Royal Mail, National Grid and various UK emergency services.
Today, that legacy of durability, innovation and hard work continues in every LDV vehicle.
Global Reach
LDV became part of the SAIC Motor family in 2010, marking a new chapter of growth and global expansion. Today, LDV benefits from the strength and scale of one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers.
As a Fortune Global 500 company, SAIC Motor produces and sells millions of vehicles annually across international markets, with a strong presence in passenger, commercial and new-energy segments. This global reach supports continued investment in advanced technologies, engineering excellence and product development.
Over the past decade, LDV has expanded its range to meet the evolving needs of drivers and businesses, offering everything from hardworking commercial vehicles to versatile SUVs, bakkies and people movers. The brand has also embraced the shift toward electric mobility through the introduction of new energy vehicle solutions across multiple segments.
Driven by a commitment to safety, value and innovation, LDV continues to deliver vehicles designed for modern life, growing businesses and the roads ahead.
